The Big Night

No matter how well you plan, there is always a chance that something goes wrong. It is important that your prom photographer is flexible and able to adapt if things get changed for some reason. Most prom photographers in San Diego are going to have a limit on how long they will be there. It is important that all of the guests know this limit. You should make sure your prom photographer is willing to make exceptions to their rules if there are people who haven't gotten their photo taken. After all, we only have 1 prom night.

Your photographer should have their section marked off for safety reasons. Studio equipment is very expensive and can be broken easily if bumped by a dancing teenager.

A professional event photographer will have plenty of order forms so people aren't waiting any longer than necessary to place an order. Make sure you know ahead of time what type of payment is acceptable. Most companies take checks and obviously cash. For proms many companies will not accept credit cards because most kids that age do not have them yet.

What to Expect When Shooting

Most photographers are going to take 2-4 photos of each couple or group. Good photographers will allow you to preview the images and typically if you don't like the photos they will take another one.

Themes

If you have a theme for your prom most photographers will be able to take part in this. Ask ahead of time what type of backgrounds they have. Many companies are able to shoot green screen and put any type of backdrop you wish in the photo. However, this can take away from quality.

Most photographers will be able to include text to emboss on the photos or custom borders, etc. You might even want your school logo on the photos, see if that can be done ahead of time.

The Original Image

Make sure your photographer has an option to purchase the original image with a copyright release. Some companies do not allow this and it is my recommendation to avoid them. Times have changed and they should be willing to part with this image so kids can post them on their Facebook page or print them later on their own. My company includes the original image with every package.

If you keep all of these things in mind when choosing your prom photographer you can count on a great night!
